The area of the association comes under the Vanchiyoor village of Thiruvananthapuram district. The road which starts towards east from the Pettah-Anayara Railway gate and ends at the Pallimukku-Kannammoola road is identified as the Chayakkudi road. The people who are living on the two sides of the Chayakkudi road and its sub-roads with dead end are covered under the Chayakkudi Residents Association(CRA). The primary issue was the pathetic condition of the Chayakkudi main road and the flooding at that time. Protection of the welfare of the people and promotion of social activity are also the major concerns which have resulted in the formation of the association.

The association was formed on 25th July 1993 in a meeting convened at S N DP Hall Pettah which was presided over by Prof. Sundaresan Nair and inaugurated by the Worshipful Mayor Shri. M P Padmanabhan. All residents of the location assembled at the meeting and formed action plans for improving the living environment of Chayakkudi more comfortable. During the function felicitations were offered by Pettah ward counsillor Shri. Thoppil Viswanathan, Dr. Padmavathy, Shri. Viswanatha Kurup and Adv. Shri. M K Bhaskaran.

It is worth mentioning the contribution of Shri. Viswanatha Kurup, Shri. B C Gomez, Shri. Sankaran Nair, Sri. B R George and Shri. Abdul Latheef during the initial days of the functioning of the association. On a later period discussions were made for changing the name of the association, but were decided not to change, since this location was populated by the people who did coloring of clothes during the erstwhile period of Maharaja of Travancore. The association got registration in 1993 and this is the first few associations in the city of Trivandrum which got registration and formed with a well written byelaw. At present there are about 150 members in the association. About seventy percent of the members settled here are from other places.
